"It's still a work in progress. But ultimately the idea is that it's a historical thing. That is, it is an encyclopedia of my life as an artist. It eventually will contain everything I've ever done. This way, when I die, (which I actually think will never happen) but anyway..." he laughs. "If I'm no longer in this realm to defend myself, the record will be straight."

Kimmel, currently is working on his fourth novel, Forrest Dandelion and the Wildflower Misfit Campaign. His first novel Jeremy's Prophecy Dot Com is available wherever books are sold. See amazon

here's the format ... Take it if you can!!

every artist knows about these morning pages. and this thing called the artist's way. and artist's dates and all that stuff. and i suppose i could hyperlink the book the artist's way right here. but that would mean i was taking this blogging thing way too seriously. i mean it's hard enough that they don't pay me for these words... see novel http://www.jeremysprophecy.com but i digress

i've come across a really, really great tool for me as an artist that is kind of sort of like these morning pages, but i think it's taking it to the next level, or another level, or some sort of level. the point is.. this exercise, of which i am about to share, will certainly help any BRAVE artist unlock, whatever it might be that be blocking him/her. that is, this tool of which i am about to share is a great way to help reveal things that are around you, in you, on your mind, or needing to inspire you. in essence this is a fine way, i have found, to very quickly tap the muse ... and learn all sorts of great stuff.. to get you going make you happy, and above all BE FREE ... (warning this can become obsessive and useless if not treated with awe)

so here's how it works. find some time when you are just being. or giving to yourself, or not worrying, or just a time where you've decided it's time off. THEN go to a book store or a movie rental place .. and walk in and roam around, remember movies, or books you've watched our read, and simply be inspired... but this whole thing is kinda of fast .. just go in and enjoy and take your IPHONE (or whatever small/cell camera) and snap some jacket covers (don't think too much about what to take a snap shot of) just whatever feels good (sort of random)... NOT TOO MANY .. just enough to feel, you know, .. high ...

then when you get home download the snapshots, look at the images you captured and write what comes to mind ... do it daily if you can ...

here's an example:

what follows is the patented art of kEith / keith kimmel UBER BLOG BLOG BLOG
(or how to really say what's on your mind) (c) 2011 *** royalty free / free to copy with credit

10-12-11 4:30 pm .. location (dvd rental store)

jesus christ this revolution is intense. overwhelming. and so fast. i have no idea how to see. how to see the pace. alice in wonderland transitions. all sober. i sure hope i'm not fuckin' things up by going too fast. cia. paranoia. the kids are alright. the 60's would be proud. SEE me on wall street. i will be there soon ....

i have no idea what this is. i have never heard of this cat. does that make me completely illiterate and an unartist? the image is haunting and i see myself. that psychotic (manic) color of darkness... it's always the 2nd in a series that is dark... like the 'empire strikes back' .. that nose is my nose .. frightened tortured, semitic curled ... twisted all up like plado. and up against the force of all physical.. molded into to guffaw. molded into surrender.. molded.. molded. mold

i saw this film. it's a burden to try to tell you what it's about ... watch it if you can... the title says it all. ...

THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL

woe to the artist unprepared for the insanity that will follow when one truly, actually, tries to proceed with a plan that incorporates attempting to promote your great creations to their rightful place in fame.

cool as school

I watched the documentary Cool School last night on netflix. 'THE COOL SCHOOL is the story of the Ferus Gallery, which nurtured Los Angeles’s first significant post-war artists between 1957 and 1966.'

I could say a whole bunch of things. But I’d rather not get into all that.

Just a couple of notes here... like John Altoon. Here’s a man who died. Another artist who died. They gave him shock therapy and he died.

And then there was Wallace Berman. George Herms described his show as ‘a regular art gallery turned into a temple’. The authorities closed the show down, calling it obscene.

There’s no question that art test’s boundaries. At least it should. But, more so, there’s no question that artist's are crucified.

we snuff embers of the burning bush as quickly as they spark ... with censorship or shock therapy ...

When Earth's last picture is painted

"When Earth's last picture is painted
And the tubes are twisted and dried
When the oldest colors have faded
And the youngest critic has died
We shall rest, and faith, we shall need it
Lie down for an aeon or two
'Till the Master of all good workmen
Shall put us to work anew
And those that were good shall be happy
They'll sit in a golden chair
They'll splash at a ten league canvas
With brushes of comet's hair
They'll find real saints to draw from
Magdalene, Peter, and Paul
They'll work for an age at a sitting
And never be tired at all.
And only the Master shall praise us.
And only the Master shall blame.
And no one will work for the money.
No one will work for the fame.
But each for the joy of the working,
And each, in his separate star,
Will draw the thing as he sees it.
For the God of things as they are!"

-Rudyard Kipling
